The Power of your Words

I have been pushing through a difficult time with my work.  It is one of those times when I can see the silver lining ahead if I just keep on going….  In the midst of this exercise and discipline of endurance, I have felt a little “overworked, under-appreciated and under-paid”.   Well, truth be told, I have felt “alot” of the above statement!!!!

In the midst of lots of last minute details and loose ends, I received a call from someone involved in this effort and with some simple words, “it is good to hear your voice again”, and they went on with addressing the matter at hand.   I could feel my heart pounding and my eyes filled with tears – maybe it was just the moment in time that I needed to feel I had been validated – someone was glad to hear from me.

I left the office too late – my fault; needed gas and barely made it to the closest gas station with 2 miles left and then battled major traffic to arrive by the skin of my teeth!   So, I would not say that I had arrived in one of my better moods!   As I walked into my service provider, she very genuinely exclaimed to me a very powerful and most kind compliment.

I have wondered since these incidents about how  words can be extremely soothing and yet,  they can also cut one to the very core of their being.  In both circumstances, words have power and I am convicted to use mine more carefully and be mindful of someone who needs to hear “it is good to hear your voice again”.
