Well, I have opened a new calendar this morning – have you? As I looked through the year – not sure what I expected to see “down the road”, I found myself also reflecting on this past year….. Just as many of you, I take the “old” calendar and transfer important dates to me, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, days off, vacation, etc…. Intentional on getting the important dates, clearly identified so that nothing will conflict with those special events in my life…..
I sure hope this coming year will allow me the opportunity to share great times of celebrations in my loved one’s lives. I hope that my days at work will render me useful, helpful, a contributor and team player. I hope my days as a family member afford me the opportunity to continue to be of help to my mom in various ways to make her days a little more comfortable and enjoyable and less lonely.
I hope that “I” will focus on “being” – whatever comes my way on whatever day of the year. Calendars and planning are wonderful tools to keep one organized and on track; but, I so hope that I will relish in the unplanned and unscheduled of life. As we have just come through the season of “preparation”, it is my hope that I will be “prepared” for whatever lies ahead. As I have been reminded from many dear friends and family of this past year, this can and does often come in the form of losses of loved ones, job losses, financial struggles, medical condions for self or loved ones, etc. and these changes will affect one’s calendar tremendously. Most recently, I have been in a period of transition with how a new boss comes with lots of newness to my daily routine – still taking me a little to adjust but I hold onto the hope that those new ways will move the mission further and hope to remain focused on how I can enable him to be successful in this endeavor.
My wish for many, as you see this year, from a new page of your calendar, don’t plan it out too far in advance – let’s see what unfolds and turn every day into a fresh page – ready to enjoy “being”.
